This years National Championships at Maggie Valley definitely had its memorable moments and rewarding moments. No one can ever forget the challenges we faced with music. Seemed that Shady Grove could not go on the floor without something going wrong with the music. By the same token, we also can't forget the great performance many of our teams and individuals turned in. It definitely proved to be the culmination of a lot of hard work and commitment for our dancers and the families and friends that support them.
A highlight of this event is always the naming of the All-American teams. In addition to the regular All-American Team recognitions, this year also brought the naming of the Team of the Decade. BRMC was honored to have three excellent dancers earn these distinguished honors this year. On Friday evening, Allison Durham was named to the Jr. All-American Team. Allison was obviously a popular choice among our team members as they swarmed her with hugs and congratulations as soon as the announcement was made. During the awards session on Saturday, Anna Porter became the latest BRMC dancer to earn the prestigious honor of being named to the All-American Team. Anna has been clogging for most of her life, and has spent most of this time with BRMC. Also on Saturday, Kelley Addington was named to the ACHF Team of the Decade. This is a well deserved recognition for Kelley and the many accomplishments she has made since she began clogging. Those of us who have been here with BRMC for the past few years know the dedication and hard work that these young ladies have given to clogging and to BRMC and that they really deserve this recognition. .
Our teams were very successful in the 3-day competition. Friday the Tiny Tot through Junior teams took the floor in hoedowns, traditional line, precision and line formation. BRMC hoedowns were really competitive, with each team scoring well. The way was lead by Mountain Express that was named as Grand Champion Tiny Tot team with their performance in the 4 or more couple hoedown. Most of the teams placed in the top 3 of their category adn age division with Mountain Wildfire, Mountain Edition and Mountain Express each earning first place awards. Saturday saw the adults and Shady Grove Precision on the floor. The adults kept up the pace with a 2nd place award in some quality competition. Sunday was the day for Duets, Duos and Choregraphed solos. Again we were well represented here.

The dancers of BRMC also had a great day and represented us well in solos
both traditional and contemporary. Several of our dancers earned "call
backs" in addition to those that placed. This in itself is quite an
honor at this competition. Our duos and duet also did really good jobs on Sunday. Good job to all of our dancing duets and duos for your devotion and hard work in this. It takes a lot of work and practice in this division. |
